Growing Up:Hamza

Chapter 1: The Day He Arrived

W

The night Hamza was born, thunder cracked over the city like a drumroll from the sky. Ammi said it was as if the world itself was announcing something special. Baba paced outside the hospital room nervously, clutching a damp handkerchief and whispering prayers under his breath.

When the nurse brought the tiny, wrapped bundle into the room, everything seemed to go silent. The rain outside stopped. Even the hum of machines faded into the background. Hamza’s eyes fluttered open for a brief moment—and in that instant, his parents fell in love all over again.

He was a quiet baby. Rarely cried, always curious. The family said he had his Dada’s calm nature and his Ammi’s sharp eyes. His big sister Zainab stared at him with a mixture of wonder and suspicion. “He’s too small to play with,” she declared, but secretly, she adored him.
